Calico Ghost Town - Yermo, CA
Calico is an old West mining town that has been around since 1881 during the largest silver strike in California. With its 500 mines, Calico produced over $20 million in silver ore over a 12-year span. When silver lost its value in the mid-1890's, Calico lost its population. The miner's packed up, loaded their mules and moved away abandoning the town that once gave them a good living. It became a "ghost town."
Maturanga Museum - Ridgecrest, CA
In addition to the exhibit galleries of the Upper Mojave Desert, the Museum sponsors many programs and tours, including tours to the world-famous Coso petroglyphs. The Museum is also an information center for Death Valley, the Northern Mojave Desert, and the Highway 395 and 178 corridors.
Soledad Mountain Moning District - Mojave-Rosamond, CA

US Naval Museum of Armament & Technology - Ridgecrest, CA
Since its beginning in 1943, China Lake has accomplished a long list of "Technical Firsts" in its laboratories and on its Test and Evaluation Ranges. The history of the China Lake Military Mission is unique indeed. The Museum preserves and displays many unique achievements in naval air and surface armament and technology. This is an awe inspiring excursion to take.
Trona Pinnacles - Ridgecrest, CA
The Trona Pinnacles are some of the most unique geological features in the California Desert Conservation Area. The unusual landscape consists of more than 500 tufa spires, some as high as 140 feet, rising from the bed of the Searles Dry Lake basin. The pinnacles vary in size and shape from short and squat to tall and thin, and are composed primarily of calcium carbonate (tufa). The Trona Pinnacles have been featured in many commercials, films, and still-photo shoots.
El Mirage Lake bed- El Mirage, CA
The lake bed is a flat playa formed in an undrained basin. Silt and clay are deposited into this basin during periods of heavy rain. When the "lake" dries, a hard pan dry lake bed is left.
This hard, smooth surface is ideal for the unique activities conducted at El Mirage. These include ultra-light aircraft and gyrocopter flying, model rocketry, remote control airplane flying, land-sailing and straight track racing. Many private pilots land on the lake bed to spend the day. The surface character has attracted the interest of many filming companies. Several major movies have scenes filmed here.

Devil's Punchbowl - Pearblossom
The Devil’s Punchbowl is a unique 1,310 acre geological wonder where visitors can walk, hike or take a horseback ride on a 7.5 mile round-trip trail through a deep canyon formed by the runoff of large quantities of water from the higher San Gabriel Mountains. See spectacular up tilted rock formations created by layers of sedimentary rocks, or visit the Nature Center to learn about the native wildlife and park history.
Robber's Roost - Ridgecrest
Outlaws were known to use the formation as a lookout for stagecoaches that were moving south toward Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley from the Owens Valley or west through Walker Pass toward the San Joaquin Valley. Stagecoaches along this route often carried gold, silver and other valuables from the local mines.

A little off the main path (OK, it's a LOT off the path), but you can actually interact with some wonderful critters including zebras, camels, reindeer and bison. Musical Road - Lancaster
The road features intermittent grooves similar to rumble strips found on highways. The grooves are spaced so that a series of pitches play when a car drives over them at around 55 mph. It was designed to replicate the finale of William Tell Overture.
